Semantic Web content recomendations

Posted by zero on March 30th, 2008

Semantic Web is coming up pretty fast, this might be the third time that I got hold of a web application that claims to be semantic in nature. For the new people Semantic web is the predicted future of web technology where web its self will have its own brain to make decisions for us. So today I ll make a post on the two great Semantic web applications I test.

Swottie an Opinion Analyzer
Swottie a word that means “Clever One” claims to be a semantic application. Though the application lacks resource and information as the first few attempts to search for popular terms like web browser didn’t came up with positive results, rather no results were published and seemed like the application got stuck in finding opinions on the web browser.

Swottie an Opinion Analyzer
Though considering my internet to a faulty one I re made the attempt and this time picked up a few recommended listed on the bottom one of which was “apple”, “iPhone”.
So what turns out is a review of iPhone tagged with keywords like design, usability, display et. Based on the number of positive review for a tag. Bar charts to display data organized and even pie charts to summarize the views. Though the site seems nice but I am still doubtfull of there claim to be semantic applications, seems like a search result….

Zamanta – Blog Me Up
Zamanta is a new service integrating blogging platforms like Wordpress, Blogger, Typeade to suggest information related to your blog posting. Zemanta also claims to be using a natural language processing & semantic algorithms.

Zamanta can be a life saver for bloggers & publishers in term of content, what Zamanta does is once you publish your content is crawls the net, Wikipedia, flicrk, and net and find articles, pictures, links related to the article you are going to publish. A publisher can use that information to add reference to his blog post regarding the content he is publishing.

Zamanta – Blog Me Up

As a blogger, to get your content “Zemified,” you’ll need to install the Firefox extension, as the only supported browser at this time is Firefox. Once installed, you only need to visit one of the supported blogging platforms and begin to write your post.

While you write, you will notice a new Zemanta sidebar added to your post editing page, which will fill with related content as you type out your entry. The more you write, the better the Zemanta recommendations will be, but each entry should be at least 300 words for Zemanta to work properly. Zemanta is English-only for now, but you may have luck if writing in another language if the content you’re writing about involves trademarked items or well-known buzzwords.
